Road Works Frustrate Commuters as Delays Mount Across Jersey

4th November 2025

Islanders are voicing growing frustration as ongoing road works continue to cause long delays and congestion across Jersey’s main routes.

From St. Helier to St. Peter, motorists report lengthy queues during peak hours, with many describing their daily commutes as “unbearable.” Some have said short trips that once took 10 to 15 minutes are now stretching to nearly an hour.

The Infrastructure Department says the works are essential to maintain and upgrade the island’s road network and sewage systems, but many residents believe the timing and coordination of multiple projects have made travel unnecessarily difficult.

Bus services have also been caught up in the disruption, with LibertyBus warning of timetable delays and extended journey times. Local businesses, particularly in St. Helier, say the constant road closures are affecting footfall and deliveries.

A government spokesperson said efforts are being made to improve communication with the public and reduce overlapping projects where possible. However, with several major works still under way, commuters may have to endure a few more years of disruption before traffic begins to ease.
